“Success happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
Dear Stakeholders of Bristol Tennessee City Schools:
Strategic planning is a means of realizing our vision as we work together to create our own future as students, parents, community, and staff of Bristol Tennessee City Schools. Today we are facing a variety of challenges: changing demographics, more emphasis on state accountability standards, new state curriculum standards, the present state of the world economy, and the integration of best practices and technology into the curriculum. The strategic planning process recently undertaken by our district will help us focus our efforts toward preparing our students for college and career success.
Approximately 20 central office administrators, school principals, and school board members participated in the planning process to develop the following strategies and action plans. David McClaskey, with Pal’s Institute, served as our external facilitator.
The strategic planning team was presented with the following charge:
1.Write a mission statement reflecting the purpose and function of Bristol Tennessee City Schools,
2.Determine our objectives or what we hope to achieve, and
3.Develop a set of strategies and action plans that will enable the school system to achieve its mission.
Meeting for two days in November and December 2014, the planning team developed a mission statement, goals, objectives, and action plans. Action teams were then assigned, and action plans were developed through consensus as outlined in the following document.
According to a famous quote, “Success happens when preparation meets opportunity.” We are now poised for success as a school system and a community. The opportunity for greatness is ours, but opportunity in itself is not enough; change requires courage and commitment.
We would like to thank everyone for their efforts and express our gratitude for having been part of such an exciting process.
