Our mission is to inspire academic excellence in a challenging, engaging learning environment that graduates responsible citizens prepared for success in the global community.

It can be difficult to condense the mission of a school district to a single sentence.  However, the mission statement above pretty well sums up what we are endeavoring to provide for the students who attend our schools.   It is a lofty mission but the future of our children is at stake.  That's not a responsibility that we take lightly.

The state of Tennessee has stepped-up to the challenge of creating higher expectations through the development of the Tennessee Diploma Project, which significantly increases the rigor of the curriculum taught at each grade level.  Never before have our students been expected to learn so much at such an early age.  The Tennessee First to the Top Act of 2010, passed during an "Extraordinary Session" of our state legislature, further solidified the state's commitment to education, which contributed to a federal Race to the Top award enjoyed by only two states in the nation for first-round funding.  These funds are being used to spearhead bold and innovative educational changes at both the local and state level.

A five-year plan is currently being implemented based on the creation of a district strategic planning process that involved a range of stakeholders, including students, parents, community members, staff, faculty, and administrators.  Recommendations include the following objectives:

  • All facilities will be safe, secure, and state of the art.
  • All individuals will meet or exceed rigorous expectations and standards.
  • All resources will be developed, aligned, and allocated to meet the needs of our students.
  • Community investment and confidence in our school district will continually improve.

We are using data more than ever before, from a variety of sources at all levels, to track and communicate the progress of children for the purpose of adjusting instruction to better meet individual needs.

Through these initiatives and others, we are aligning resources and directing focus to continually improve practice and pedagogy to meet our mission.  We value and appreciate your support in this effort as well.  We invite you to become a partner with us.  Let's work together to foster a culture of education in our community that accepts nothing less than excellence from and for our children.
