Laptop Distribution Information

We look forward to once again providing every student in grades 4-12 with a laptop to personalize learning using the same technology tools students will use in college and careers. On either July 20, 26, or 27, all students in grades 4-12 must come to Tennessee High School accompanied by a parent or guardian to be issued a laptop. You may arrive anytime between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to begin the process, which should take less than 90 minutes. Please enter door number 5 at the front of the building closest to the Stone Castle. Returning students must bring their BTCS backpack with them in order to be issued a laptop. Students receiving laptops for the first time and rising 5th graders will be issued an appropriately-sized backpack. Students in grades 6-8 must also bring their charger. Parents/legal guardians must provide valid identification to ensure the safety of each student’s information.

This year parents and students have the opportunity to expedite the time spent at the onsite training and complete a portion of the process online prior to arriving at Tennessee High School. The online portion includes verifying and updating your child’s information, watching a brief training video, and paying (or selecting a payment method for) the $50 technology usage fee. To complete these steps, login to your PowerSchool Parent Portal and click the “Returning Student Registration” button located on the left. If you need assistance accessing the parent portal, please contact your child’s school. It is necessary to complete each step and click the “SUBMIT” button at the end in order for your work to be saved. Parents or guardians with more than one child must complete the online process for each child but are only required to attend laptop distribution one time for all children. The student accompanied by a parent/guardian must still attend laptop distribution even if you complete the online training. The latest episode of "It's About Kids" has more info about the laptop distribution process.

Why Laptops?

The mission of Bristol Tennessee City Schools is to ensure students are ready for college and careers through academic excellence. To do that, we emphasize personalized learning, which is instruction that is paced to individual student needs and tailored to individual student preferences and interests. We want instruction to be student-centered to encourage and develop their thinking and problem-solving skills as well as to nurture their creativity

The laptop provided for students in grades 4-12 is only one tool of many that they will use. However, it is an important one that provides students with a wealth of resources other than just the teacher and textbooks. It provides a platform that our teachers can use to engage students in real-world, relevant activities and projects.
