How many books may I check out?
Students may check out two books at a time. If a teacher requires a book for classroom use, students may have three books checked out at any given time.
How long may I keep a book?
Books may be checked out for a period of two weeks (10 school days). Students may renew their materials for an additional two week period.
May I check out magazines?
Magazines and other reference materials may be checked out overnight. These items are checked out after lunch (12:15 P.M.) and must be returned before lunch on the following school day (10:30 A.M.).
Is there a fine for overdue materials?
A 5 cent fine will be assessed for each school day that a book is overdue. Magazine and reference materials are assessed a rate of 25 cents per school day. Report cards, awards, etc. will be held until all overdue materials are returned and fines are paid.
Do I have to keep my books for the entire two-week check out period?
The VMS library media center has an "open door" policy meaning that students may visit the library at any time, with their teacher's permission, during school hours. Therefore, as students finish reading their books, they may return or exchange them at any point during the circulation period. The library is also open after school. Please check with Dr. Stevens or Ms. Dennison for the after-hours schedule.
What happens if I damage my library books?
Anyone checking out materials from the library media center is responsible for those materials. A fine for damaged library property will be assessed (usually between $5 and $10 depending on the extent of the damage). The library patron will be charged the amount necessary to replace items that have been lost.
May I continue to check out books if I have a fine or an item that is overdue?
Check out privileges for students with overdue books or fines will be suspended two weeks prior to the end of each grading period. Once overdue materials have been returned and fines have been paid, check out privileges will be restored.
May I use the printers in the library media center?
Students may print use the printer located in the library; however, there is a 10 cent charge for each page printed.
