The Bristol Tennessee City School System does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age.

CANCELLATION OF SCHOOL
Cancellation of school takes place due to extreme weather, equipment failure, or public crisis. The School Board and administrators are aware of the hardship which can be caused by an abrupt cancellation. Therefore, school will not be canceled unless a significant safety risk has been created by unusual circumstances.
The Bristol Tennessee School System has established a School System Information Line,
652-9554
to announce weather related school closing and schedule modifications. The information line will be updated first, and then media services (radio and TV) will be called to announce changes in the school schedule. Please call this information line regarding weather related closing, rather than the school, since the school will also receive its information from this source. Please discuss with your child what he/she should do in case school is dismissed during normal school hours.

CONFERENCES
The school calendar lists specific days to schedule parent-teacher conferences. Parents may schedule a conference at other times by contacting the teacher. Our parent involvement coordinator will also be contacting parents to schedule home visits and provide another bridge for home-school communication. Teachers desiring a conference with a parent may express their concern when necessary. With open home-school communication, individual student needs can be better met

.DISCIPLINE
In order to insure an atmosphere of learning and to improve our standards of citizenship, we ask our students to pledge themselves to the following principles:
1. To display respect for our teachers, our principal, our parents, our national and civic leaders, and all the other adult leaders who are concerned with our welfare;
2. To practice loyalty, honesty, and good sportsmanship at all times;
3. To display respect for the rights and responsibilities of each individual;
4. To be punctual and regular in attendance each day;
5. To take pride in our own academic achievements and those of others;
6. To exhibit good character traits in all activities;
7. To discourage destruction of school property;
8. To dress in good taste;
9. To obey all rules and regulations of our school; and
10. To remember that through our actions we reflect our homes, church, community, and school.
The behavior expected from students at school is a combination of common courtesy and safety considerations. The following types of conduct are never permissible:
1. Fighting
2. Defiance of school staff
3. Use of profanity
4. Refusal to prepare assignments or to participate in class
5. Possession of weapons or other dangerous objects
6. Possession or use of tobacco
7. Possession or use of any controlled substance
8. Vandalism.
Please refer to the School System Discipline Code Book.

DRESS
Students should come to school dressed in a suitable manner. Any type of dress or grooming which is disruptive will not be permitted. Shoes must be worn at all times. Hats, sunglasses, jackets, and coats must be removed upon entering the building and may not be worn during class. Examples of inappropriate attire include:
-strapless tops or dresses
-see through apparel, midriff tops, tops with inappropriate holes or tears, or beach attire
-sagging pants or shorts (those worn below the normal waistline or hips, presenting the possibility of showing the student’s undergarments or restricting leg movement, causing unsafe conditions)
-clothing with lettering or numerical figures which carry a connotation of immorality, vulgarity, or obscenity or those that promote alcohol or tobacco products
The school administration has the authority to decide if clothing is in poor taste. Parents may be called to school to bring a change of clothing if clothing is judged to be inappropriate.

EARLY SIGN OUT
The student will remain in the classroom until the teacher is notified by the office to release the student. The parent or authorized person must report to the office and sign the child out. Unexcused early withdrawals will prevent students from receiving Perfect Attendance recognition.

EMERGENCY DRILLS
Emergency drills are conducted periodically throughout the year. Escape plans are posted inside each classroom. For everyone’s safety, it is imperative that students and adults treat the drills seriously and obey all safety rules.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION

When students become ill or have an accident at school, emergency first aid will be given, and serious injuries or illnesses immediately reported to parents or guardians. An emergency will be dealt with promptly by taking appropriate action including sending the student to the hospital or summoning medical aid.
In case of an accident or illness where we are unable to reach parents, the name and number of a close friend or relative should be on file with the school. Each student is required to have on file at the school office the following information:
1. Parent(s) or guardian(s) name(s)
2. Complete and up-to-date address
3. Home phone and parent(s) work phone
4. Emergency phone number of friend or relative
5. Physician’s name and phone number
6. Medical alert information

THIS IS NECESSARY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY REQUIRING MEDICAL TREATMENT AND A FAMILY MEMBER CANNOT BE LOCATED.
Notify the school immediately of address or telephone changes.
