The Bristol Tennessee City School System does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age.

ENRICHMENT FEES
An enrichment fee of $20.00 per year is assessed per student. It is payable by $10.00 at the beginning of each semester. Fee money is used to enhance the educational program with student workbooks, newspapers, and other materials.
Tennessee law requires school systems to provide parents of students receiving meal assistance the opportunity to waive fees for any materials or activities which are part of the regular school program. A letter of explanation will be sent home at the beginning of the school year.

EXTENDED DAY CHILD CARE
An extended day child care program through the YMCA is offered at Anderson from 7:00 - 8:00 AM and 3:10 - 6:00 PM. Parents who are interested should contact the YMCA at 968-3133.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Activities sponsored by organizations other than the school (such as football, basketball, soccer, cheerleading, YMCA Extended Day Program, Scouts, Little League) are not monitored by the school system in any way.
Questions regarding insurance and related topics for non-sponsored activities on school property should be directed to the supporting agencies.

Boys and Girls Club 989-3345
The School Safety Team is a safety patrol unit composed of sixth grade students. Sixth grade students may apply to the patrol sponsor. Band is open to sixth grade students.

FIELD TRIPS
Field trips are scheduled throughout the school year. These trips are designed to supplement different aspects of the classroom curriculum and to introduce students to the resources of the community. Parents will receive notices of field trips well in advance of the scheduled trip date, and must give permission in writing in advance of the planned trip in order for their child to participate. There is often a cost involved to pay admission and bus fees. If there are not enough students paying for a trip to defray the cost, the field trip may be canceled. Money for field trips can seldom be refunded due to prepaid costs for admissions and buses.
Chaperones for field trips assume a great deal of responsibility supervising students. The full attention of adults in attendance is needed to insure the safety of the students. For this reason, we require that younger children (or children not assigned to the class) NOT be taken on field trips.
Students receiving disciplinary referrals may be exempt from special activities, including but not limited to field trips.
Teachers and school personnel will chaperone on the bus providing transportation for the field trip. All other chaperones must provide their own transportation.

HOMEWORK
Teachers will communicate their homework policies to parents and students at the beginning of the school year. Completion of homework is expected on the assigned day. Following any absence, the student is required to make up assignments. If a student is absent, homework can be picked up in the office after 3:15 PM.
The school-wide homework policy consists of the following elements:
No homework on weekends (this does not include projects, which span more than one week)
RAMS (Reading And Math Stars) Work Time: Daily, 2:30 – 3:00
Time scheduled to allow students to begin and/or complete homework.

LICE
In order to help make classrooms lice-free, the Bristol Tennessee School System has a "No Nits" policy. Head lice are small insects (about the size of a sesame seed) that live on the scalp; nits are the eggs of the lice. You can tell nits from dandruff, normal scalp scales, or hair spray because they look like tiny tear drops and are difficult to dislodge. School personnel will examine students periodically, and you will be notified if lice have been found. With early detection, successful treatment, and removal of nits before returning to school, chances are better of controlling this health problem. All nits must be removed from the hair before a child can reenter school.

MEDICINES

It is the policy of the Board of Education that all students’ medication be administered by a parent or guardian at home. Unless absolutely necessary, we discourage having any medication administered at school.
If under exceptional circumstances a student is required to take medication during school hours and the parent/guardian cannot be at school to administer the medication, only the principal or his/her designee(s) will administer the medication in compliance with the following policy. A. Written instructions recorded on a Bristol Tennessee City School Medication envelope signed by the physician prescribing the medication and the parent/guardian will be required and will include:
1. Child’s name
2. Name of medications
3. Purpose of medication
4. Name of physician
5. Time to be administered
6. Dosage
7. Possible side effects, if known
8. Termination date for administering the medication
9. Release of person administering medication from liability
B. Medication shall be kept in a secure place by the principal.
C. A record of medication administered will be kept.
Envelopes are available in the school office for parents to take with them to doctors’ appointments. All changes in dosage and/or prescriptions must be recorded by the doctor on the envelope.
(Policy 6014 approved by the Board of Education, April 20, 1992)

CLASSROOM PARTIES
Two major classroom parties may be held to celebrate Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Treats may be brought in for student birthdays after the date and time are cleared with the classroom teacher. Birthday treats should be limited to a snack and juice.

Invitations (for parties held after school hours) should NOT be distributed at school unless the entire class receives the same invitation.
