The drill team is opened to anyone who is in JROTC. The team usually consists of six members in the squad and a commander. They do a list of commands and must execute them properly. Based on the execution of the command, the drill commander's voice and snappiness, the drill team is judged and are given a score. This year the drill team has competed in the THS annual drill meet and took 1st in unarmed and armed. The cadets also took place in a drill meet at SHHS and took first place in armed. The drill team is looking forward to going to Avery County this semester along with UT and Fort Knox.
The color guard is opened to anyone who is in JROTC and maintains a passing grade in all classes. The team consists of four members. The Mighty Viking Battalion has two color guard teams. A team and B team. Both teams competed at THS drill meet and took 2nd in colorguard. Color Guard also went to SHHS and did very well. Color Guard this semester is participating in basketball games and will be heading to UT and Fort Knox as well.
The Rifle team started second semester of the 2006-2007 year. They are practing very hard and are competed in a rifle match at Rogersville 08 FEB 08. The four shooters were cadets Pearce Galliher, Chantell Osejo, Ryan Osejo, and Jennifer Evans. The team took 2nd place in team standing and Cadet Galliher received a trophy for 2nd place individual standing. The Viking Battalion will be hosting a rifle match between THS, SHHS, and EHS.
The Raider Team is a team to challenge all physical capiblity and strength. The challenges consit of endurance, push-ups, rope bridges, map/compass readings, and other challenges liike that. On Septemeber 22nd 2007, the raider team, consisting of Adam Harrison, Pierce Galliher, Ryan Verhegge, Rees Burt, Tyler King, Phillip Bailey, Joe Wood, Josh Vestal, Chantell Osejo, Brandon Howard, Ashley Payne, Howard C, Kyle Hosey, Annie Johnson, and Nahtan Mumpower competed at Mountain Heritage High School and took first overall. They also competed in Mufreesborough, Tennessee and took 3rd in the first aid carry litter.
