Thank you for sending in elementary student fees of $20. You may pay $10.00 now and $10.00 at the beginning of the second semester in January. Fee money is needed for consumable materials which are used to enhance the regular instructional program.

It is the mission of Haynesfield School to provide the best education for every student enabling them to lead fulfilling and productive lives in a diverse society. We strive to know and meet the needs of individual students and work cooperatively with caregivers and community leaders to make Haynesfield a great place for children.

Secret Garden

Haynesfield’s Secret Garden Gets a Facelift

Janit Leonard wrote a wonderful story about a little girl who grew up in a world without trees for The Young Gardner Essay Contest. Janit showed great imagination and application of content learned in science class.

The prizewinner for the essay contest won a Nature Garden valued at 1500 dollars from Appalachian Gardens in Piney Flats. The location chosen for the landscaping project was the Secret Garden. Once a slightly overgrown space used only by those who did not mind giant toads and mosquitoes, the Secret Garden now resembles a tranquil space for learning and relaxing AR time.

Janit was very excited at being chosen for her essay. Her personal prize was a lunchbox stuffed with goodies such as a pencil, magnet, t-shirt, and a gift certificate for Wal-Mart. Thanks to her dedication to the environment, many students for years to come will enjoy this outdoor setting.

4th grade

Meeting AR goals

Fourth grade students who passed their AR goals got to participate in the second annual PIE IN THE FACE day. At the end of the second six weeks the three top AR goal passers from each class got the privilege of throwing a pie in the face of the fourth grade reading teacher Mrs. Rutherford. This messy activity is highly sought after by students in fourth grade. Many worked really hard to be to top reader in their class on both points and comprehension goal. In the end nine pies in total were thrown.

Challenger

Challenger Visits Haynesfield Elementary

On Monday, November 3^rd,Challenger, an American bald eagle, visited Mr. Laoo’s third grade classroom Monday afternoon to teach the students some facts about eagles. Mr. Albert Cecere, Challenger’s caretaker, who works for the American Eagle Foundation at Dollywood came and share Challenger’s story.

As a young eagle, Challenger was blown out of his nest. After surviving the fall a human family cared for and nursed Challenger back to health. Federal and state fish and wildlife agencies use Challenger to educate people about his species.

School days!

Public Relations Office - September 3, 2008

Pre-K students at Haynesfield Elementary School are getting acquainted with the procedures and rituals involved with attending school.
In the past two weeks Ms. Shelton’s class has been working on getting to know each other’s names and making friends. They discussed the Haynesfield expectations and what it means for preschoolers. They have been practicing lining up and walking down the hallway quietly. Most importantly, they are learning their lunch account numbers.

Miss TN

Miss Tennessee visits Haynesfield!

Ellen Carrington is currently the reigning Miss Tennessee. She will be visited Haynesfield Elementary on August 26, at 8:30. She spoke to our students. This is what some students had to say about her visit:

Today Miss Tennessee went to Haynesfield Elementary School to talk to children about tobacco, smoking, and how bad it is for you. She showed a healthy lung and an unhealthy lung. After that her speech was over. She let the kids take pictures and she signed lots and lots of papers. Then she left.

Miss Tennessee had just entered the gym when everything went crazy! She started talking about how gross smoking and tobacco is. She was very smart about smoking dangers. She showed us very healthy lungs and very unhealthy lungs. She asked little kids how they felt when they were around people smoking. They said it was yucky and it made them cough a lot. When she was done everything went crazy again because everyone wanted her autograph and a picture of her. It was a cooky and crazy day.

Today, Miss Tennessee, a.k.a. Ellen Carrington came to our school. She wore high heels and a blue dress. Her hair was tied back into a ponytail. When the boys saw her most of them thought she was hot! They also thought she had a pretty smile and a crown. The girls thought she looked like a princess. She also has curly hair that people thought was pretty. She spoke to us about drugs, like cigarettes. She said, “Cigarettes have nicotine in them which makes it hard to stop smoking.” So it’s best not to start. When she had to leave people took pictures and got autographs. She gave high fives, answered questions, and gave hugs. Then she left. -Gracie Ketron
