A Heartwarming Surprise

Ask around Bristol and you will quickly learn a claim to fame for Anderson Elementary School. Anderson is the place where heart meets innovation in education!

Therefore, it only makes sense that on Valentine’s Day students were in for a heartwarming surprise. The day began with a school-wide assembly, which kicked-off with a performance of the school song by talented Anderson STEAM Camp vocalists. The song was followed by the official school presentation of Anderson’s 2019-2020 Gold-level RTI2-B Model of Demonstration School, the highest achievement possible!

Second-grade student Alex Morse then read a poem to the student body about love and leadership. As Alex was reading the poem, his father, who had been away on military deployment for nine months in Poland, entered the assembly and surprised Alex for Valentine’s Day. Everyone present celebrated—especially Alex!

Following the assembly, fifth and sixth grade students resumed Career Tech Expo Week activities by learning about the career of flight medics from Bristol Regional Medical Center professionals. This was the culmination of a week of activities from Anderson’s first Career Tech Expo and years of work and commitment to earning the highest designation for Model of Demonstration Schools possible in the state of Tennessee. Throughout the week, the school welcomed community partners who shared career options with fifth and sixth grade students, including the following: drafting design, law enforcement, accounting, and nursing. Students also made connections to high school curriculum by hosting HOSA students from Tennessee High School who shared opportunities available through career and technical education classes and early college credits in high school.

“It has been exciting to host our first Career Tech Expo this week,” said Dr. Ginger Christian, principal at Anderson Elementary School. “Inspiring Anderson RAMS to think with the end in mind and be prepared for college and career readiness is our goal and vision. This week expands career exploration and develops a systematic process to inspire and motivate students to consider coding, robotics, science engineering labs, and career exploration in elementary school.”

Anderson Elementary School would like to thank the following Career Tech Expo Week partners:

  • Bristol Tennessee Fire Department
  • Bristol Regional Medical Center
  • Tennessee High School HOSA students
  • Stanfield, Thomas and Associates Accounting Firm
  • Bristol Tennessee Police Department
