Welcome Dr. Sisk! New Director Slated to Begin November 1

During a special called meeting on September 26, the Bristol Tennessee Board of Education approved an employment contract for Tom Sisk to serve as the district’s next director of schools. According to the contract, Dr. Sisk will begin his employment with the district on November 1.

“You will frequently hear me say there are no results without relationships,” Sisk said. “I am eager to start building those relationships with students, staff, parents, and the entire Bristol community. I look forward to being a Tennessee High Viking and being able to direct all my attention to the students of Bristol Tennessee City Schools.

“My wife Jennie and I both love the mountains, and the area is truly blessed with many attractions. I’ve visited several times during my 42 years as a Scout leader. I told someone: ‘I’m not looking for a job. I have one of those already. I’m looking for home.’ We couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity to make our home in Bristol, Tennessee.”

Sisk is currently superintendent in Limestone County Schools in Athens, Ala., a position he has held since 2012. During his 32 years in public education, he has served as a high school administrator and central office administrator. Sisk has also worked as a special education teacher and a coach in football, wrestling and girls’ softball. He is a Nationally Certified School Superintendent, one of fewer than 400 in the United States. Sisk comes from a working class family in West Virginia. He worked his way through high school framing houses and was the first in his family to get a college degree.

Sisk will replace Gary Lilly, who resigned in June after 10 years to serve as the director in Collierville Schools. Annette Tudor, the district’s secondary supervisor of curriculum and instruction, is currently serving as interim director.
