Robinette Pre-Apprenticeship

On April 25, Tennessee High School and The Robinette Company entered into a pre-apprenticeship agreement and signed their first student in their newly formed pre-apprenticeship partnership.

The manufacturing pre-apprenticeship agreement ensures students who meet the requirements of the course standards; complete the 180 Skills Certifications Modules, Precision Measurement Instruments (PMI) and OSHA10 Manufacturing Industry Certification; and have successful attendance and discipline records will be guaranteed an interview with the partnering company. The Robinette Company is the second company in the northeast Tennessee region to take advantage of a pre-apprenticeship pipeline to meet their growing workforce needs. J.A. Street signed an agreement with THS in March of last year.

The second part of the event celebrated a signing ceremony for The Robinette Company’s new pre-apprentice THS Sophomore Anthony Campbell, who is only 16 years old. In March 2022, Steve Anderson, the THS manufacturing teacher, and Deidre Pendley, director of career and technical education for Bristol Tennessee City Schools, recommended Anthony, a successful manufacturing student, to The Robinette Company through the pre-apprenticeship program. Through this opportunity, Anthony will earn hours toward the four-year apprenticeship program. Anthony is currently working after school for The Robinette Company. Next school year, the WBL course will allow him to leave THS to travel to The Robinette Company for a period of time each school day and on weekends.

“The Robinette Company is very excited to have Anthony Campbell as our first student pre-apprentice,” said Carolyn Ferrell, vice-president of human resources and community relations for the Robinette Company. “We are very appreciative of the efforts of Jessica Barnett with the State Apprenticeship Program, Ms. Pendley, the Career and Technical Education Department, and the CTE teachers. We are also grateful for Principal Kirk, Director of Schools Annette Tudor, and everyone who had the vision of this program for manufacturing. The Robinette Company is looking forward to a continued partnership with THS, not only with this program but also with CTE's Work-Based Learning Program. We feel very blessed to have this opportunity!”

“Our goal is to provide high-quality CTE programs in a variety of high-wage, in-demand, and/or growing careers available in the Bristol area,” Pendley said. “This pre-apprenticeship partnership aligns perfectly with this goal for students. The Robinette Company is setting an admirable precedent by hiring a student even as young as 16. This practice will allow industry partners a pipeline for high-school students to explore employment for lengthier periods during their high school years. Our hope is for this program to continue to be the catalyst for other industries to join our commitment to achieving sustainable careers for our students and a sustainable workforce for our community.”
