New Administrative Appointments

Bristol Tennessee City Schools is excited to announce the following administrative appointments, effective July 1, 2021.

Brett Herron

Brett Herron

Brett Herron has been selected as the principal for Anderson Elementary School. Mr. Herron most recently served as associate principal at John F. Kennedy Elementary and John Adams Elementary in Kingsport for four years. Prior to that, he taught kindergarten and fourth grade for nine years at Kingsport’s Roosevelt Elementary School.

“It is a true honor to be selected as the principal of Anderson Elementary,” Herron said. “I am extremely humbled and honored to be leading this wonderful school. I look forward to working with the Anderson Elementary family to ensure continued success and high expectations for all students.”

Denise McKee

Denise McKee

Denise McKee has been selected as the principal for Avoca Elementary School. Ms. McKee most recently served as principal at Clinch School in Hawkins County for three years. Prior to that, she was principal at Carter’s Valley Elementary for three years. Ms. McKee has also served as an assistant principal, middle and high school alternative school administrator, and high school history teacher during her 22+ years in education.

“I am very excited to join Bristol Tennessee City Schools as the new administrator of Avoca Elementary,” said Ms. McKee. “Bristol Tennessee City Schools is a district grounded in putting students first with a commitment to providing every student with a well-rounded education that serves the whole child. I can't wait to meet the students, families, teachers, and staff of Avoca Elementary and become an official Avoca Dragon! I look forward to being a part of this great school and community that is committed to striving to bring out the best in all our students.”

Robin Blair

Robin Blair has been named special education director for Bristol Tennessee City Schools. She spent the past five years as a program assistant at Vance Middle School. Ms. Blair began her career with BTCS in 2000 as a special education teacher at Tennessee High School and has also taught special education at Tennessee Online Public School.

Dr. Jared Day

Dr. Jared Day has been named ESSER director for Bristol Tennessee City Schools. He has been the district’s data and testing program coordinator since 2017. Dr. Day brings more than 18 years of educational experience to his new role having also served as an elementary teacher, elementary program assistant, middle school curriculum and testing coordinator, and middle school assistant principal.

Dr. Vonda Beavers

Dr. Vonda Beavers has been named assistant principal of Tennessee Middle School. She has served as the principal of Avoca Elementary School for the past six years. Prior to that, Dr. Beavers worked at Vance Middle School as the curriculum, testing, and data coordinator for four years. She also has experience as an elementary librarian, classroom teacher, and higher education instructor.

Jane Laoo has been named principal of Holston View Elementary School. She has spent the past seven years as program assistant at Fairmount Elementary School. Prior to this leadership role, Ms. Laoo served 11 years as an elementary classroom teacher.

Dr. Kristie Coleman

Dr. Kristie Coleman has been named supervisor of student services for Bristol Tennessee City Schools. Dr. Coleman has served as principal at Holston View Elementary since 2015. In addition, Dr. Coleman brings a wealth of other educational leadership and classroom experiences to her new role having served as the program assistant at Haynesfield Elementary for six years and an elementary physical education teacher at Holston View prior to that.

"Dr. Coleman has extensive experience in elementary administration and overseeing the elementary CDC classes," said Dr. Annette Tudor, director of schools. "This experience, combined with her related arts background and her passion for providing services that support the whole child, make her an ideal candidate for this position."

Seymour Ray

Seymour Ray has been named the first principal of Tennessee Middle School. He has served students, staff, and families as assistant principal at Vance Middle School for the past 12 years. Mr. Ray has a variety of experiences in secondary education and administration. Prior to coming to BTCS in 2006 as a program assistant at Tennessee High, Mr. Ray was a middle school classroom teacher.

"Mr. Ray has extensive secondary administrative experience, and he has been directly involved in preparing for the transition to the new school," said Dr. Annette Tudor, director of schools. "He is most adept at establishing relationships with all students, and particularly those who are most at-risk."
