Music in the Castle 2020 Cancelled

The Tennessee High School Mighty Viking Band (MVB) announced that Music in the Castle (MITC) 2020 has been canceled because of increased restrictions on band performances and travel due to COVID-19.

“For 68 years, MITC has been a treasured event that brings in bands and fans from all over the Southeastern United States,” said Tennessee High School Director of Bands David Semones. “MITC is an awesome family experience that allows bands to showcase their skills and talents. Unfortunately, most schools have suspended their band competition season due to restrictions caused by COVID-19. Therefore after much discussion, our band boosters reluctantly decided it would be best to cancel this year’s MITC.”

Many band competitions in Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina have also cancelled their band competitions. Proper social distancing, travel restrictions and funding have forced many bands to cancel their entire marching season.

"The biggest thing our band does is promote Tennessee High Viking Pride," said Semones. "Right now, our band has formed a pep band to support the football team and encourage the crowd. We hope to be able to perform a halftime show for fans soon. Our focus continues to be on the health and safety of students, staff and volunteers.”

MITC is the single-largest fundraising event for the MVB. Donations can still be made to the Tennessee High MVB Boosters by mailing a check to 1112 Edgemont Avenue, Bristol, TN 37620, ATTN: Band Boosters.

“We appreciate the support of the many parents, fans and community members who have been a part of this celebration for 68 years,” Semones said. “Although we are disappointed about this year, we hope the 70th year will be the best ever.”

The next MITC is scheduled for October 2, 2021.
