School Psychologist


    School psychologists help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students that strengthen connections between home and school.

    A school psychologist is an expert with special training in psychology and education. They are specialists in child development who also understand techniques and methods used in the educational process. They provide assessment and programming information required to properly serve children with special needs. A goal of the school psychologist is to promote mental health in the schools and provide all children quality educational opportunities.

    Their services include:

    • Providing individual assessment of students to evaluate academic, intellectual, perceptual, and social-emotional functioning.
    • Identifying the special needs of children and helping to plan their educational program.
    • Consulting with students, parent, teachers, administrators and other professionals in the school and community to enhance services to students.
    • Planning and/or providing inservice training or educational programs for school staff, parents or the community.
