Romaine Lettuce Alert
Our district was notified on Monday, November 25, by the USDA of a public health alert which has been issued by the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advising consumers not to eat any romaine lettuce harvested from the Salinas, California, growing region due to illnesses caused by E. coli O157:H7. Immediately upon receipt of the alert, our school nutrition staff reviewed the labels of our lettuce inventory and discarded any potentially affected product. Prior to the alert, our school cafeterias did serve lettuce that was grown in the affected region of Salinas, California. E. coli is a gastrointestinal infection which causes symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, and fever. If your child exhibits any of these symptoms, please contact your medical care provider immediately. For more information on the alert and E. coli, please visit
