Program Summary
Residential & Commercial Construction provides students with exposure to various occupations and pathways in the Architecture and Construction career cluster. Throughout this program, students will learn about the various careers in the construction trades. They will also learn to use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and shop machines to complete assignments and projects. Students will develop an understanding of the general steps involved in constructing a building and the variety of skills used in the construction trades.

Career Opportunities
With completion of this program of study, students will have numerous career opportunities in the construction industry. They can start working right after high school or continue with postsecondary training at TCAT or Northeast State. This program offers work-based learning and pre-apprenticeship programs in carpentry. Dual enrollment in construction technology with TCAT gives the students an opportunity to complete the TCAT training within eight months after high school graduation. Middle Tennessee State offers scholarships to attend the Concrete Industry Management program with students earning a four-year degree. The potential to have a well-paying, exciting, and rewarding career is endless. Carpentry, masonry, drywall, concrete, electrical, HVAC, and roofing are some examples of the careers that await. Tennessee ranks sixth nationally in highest average construction salary coming in at just under $40,000 a year. There is potential to earn up to $90,000 per year.
Dual Enrollment
TCAT
Students can earn 120 hours per semester (and 225 hours for NCCER Core Industry Certification) towards their TCAT Diploma in Building Construction Technology (Total clock hours required for TCAT diploma: 2160). Students who excel in the program will be able to skip the waiting list for this program at TCAT after graduation from THS.
