Program Summary
In the teaching as a profession program of study, students explore topics in education in everything from the history of education to adolescent cognitive development. Students who enroll in this program are typically interested in pursuing a career in education from a classroom teacher to administration to counseling. The program allows students to teach specific lessons and also allows them the opportunity to observe other teachers.
Local Employers
Educators are typically employed by school districts. Former students who have completed the program of study have started working within BTCS as substitute teachers and educational assistants while pursuing their four-year degree.
Career Opportunities
After obtaining a four-year degree from an accredited college and passing applicable licensure exams, local median beginning teacher salaries range from $30,000 to $44,000 and increase each year of experience with 30 years of experience at $65,000. Coaching and supplements increase these amounts. Experienced educators can also pursue teaching jobs in higher education or work as consultants for companies who provide products and services to school districts.
"Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today."
Malcolm X
