Family Resource Center Resources Page

Bristol Tennessee City Schools welcomes you to The Connection. The Connection is home to the BTCS department of family and community engagement and the department of attendance, transportation, and safety.  The Family Resource Center addresses needs established by the school system, parents, and community stakeholders with the goal of having a positive impact on students, who will ultimately guide the future of our community. The Connection's goal is to continually improve community involvement and confidence in our school district.

Kay Ward serves as coordinator of family and community engagement. Kay develops, updates, and implements policies and procedures for the Family Resource Center (FRC). She works to continue existing community partnerships, as well as attempts to expand FRC services through the acquisition of new community partners. She communicates regularly with teachers, school counselors, and administrators to identify families that need community services, coordinates those services, and keeps accurate records of BTCS families served. Ms. Ward's office is located in the FRC and she can be contacted at [email protected] or (423) 652-9251.

What assistance is offered at the Family Resource Center?

  • Resource packet with contacts to local agencies willing to assist with financial, housing, and insurance issues
  • Seasonal student clothing at no cost to eligible recipients
  • Limited supply of non-perishable food at no cost to eligible recipients
  • Limited supply of personal hygiene items at no cost to eligible recipients
  • School supplies to eligible recipients
  • Limited cleaning supplies/laundry detergent at no cost to eligible recipients
  • Connections to obtaining new shoes for eligible BTCS students
  • Holiday assistance: both BTCS and community efforts

Resources/Referrals

In addition to providing direct services, the Family Resource Center offers resource and referral services to local agencies. Referrals are taken from BTCS administrators, school counselors, teachers, and general staff members. Referrals are also accepted from local agencies when BTCS families are involved. Parents/guardians of BTCS students may also call the Family Resource Center for individual needs or assistance in locating resources in the community.
