National Merit semifinalists named

National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists Grayson Lattanzi and Amy Shi photgraphed with congratulations
Lattanzi and Shi score perfect 36 on ACT composite!

Congratulations to seniors Grayson Lattanzi and Amy Shi, who have been named semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Grayson is a senior at Tennessee Online Public School, and Amy is a senior at Tennessee High School. Both will continue in the competition for the ultimate goal of approximately 7,600 National Merit Scholarships, which are worth more than $31 million.

More than 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Approximately 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, were notified that they have qualified as semifinalists.

To ensure that academically talented young people from all parts of the United States are included in this talent pool, semifinalists are designated on a state-representational basis. Semifinalists are the highest scoring entrants in each state. Qualifying scores vary from state-to-state and from year-to-year, but the scores of all semifinalists are extremely high. NMSC provides scholarship application materials to semifinalists through their high schools. To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, semifinalists must advance to finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic and other standards.
